latest release: 2024-02-03 10:27:44
Description
This extension for LibreOffice and OpenOffice enables the user to make a normal save and to additionally create a timestamped backup copy of the document with just one click.
The backup copy will be placed into the backup directory set in Tools - Options - Open/LibreOffice - Paths - Backups
It is recommended to adjust the path of the backup directory to a user friendly place.
The extension has a menu item in the File menu, and a toolbar icon in the standard toolbar.
It works in these applications: Writer, WriterWeb, WriterMaster, Calc, Draw, Impress, Math.
WARNING for Mac users: The extension may not work under LibreOffice Vanilla which is available at the Mac appstore. This might be due to the increased security settings and sandboxing provided by the appstore, but additional information about this issue is welcomed.

Hi!
Very useful extension! Is there any chance to get a fully automated version and create a backup every x minutes (e.g. using the auto recovery setting from libreoffice).
Thank you!

Brilliant extension. 5 star recommended.
One small mod, save sheets that are encrypted with password to also save the backup with the password protection? Issue opened on Github.
Lastly, on the website, perhaps a link to the Github?
(personal opinion, this needs to be a standard plugin on LO. Its that good)

Estensione utilissima per salvare e creare una copia di backup con un solo click.
Perfettamente funzionante su LibreOffice 6.4.7.2 (Linux).

The 1.2.0 version has a new feature: you can manage the backup files:
You can open or delete the selected backup files. (Menu: File - Manage Backup files)
You can open one selected backup file at a time, or you can delete more than one selected backup files. You can select files based on many conditions.
You must use the file access dialogs of the Office Suite - instead of the file access dilalogs of the Operating System, therefore the code enforces the usage of the dialog boxes of the office suite (only for the timestamp backup feature.
You have downloaded the 1.2.0 version from the site linked above.

Nice to have, but it would be a lot nicer if you could set it up as automatic, without having to click the button to get it to fire off. I know some would say, "But the backup directory would become monstrously huge!" Fine, include a small setup menu for the extension that allows you to keep only the last XX number of backups of a file (where XX is user definable).

This extension is written in StarBasic and it is an open source, free software. You can modify it as you want it.

This is a brilliant add-in. I use it to keep a record of versions of my drafts because it saves the file but also it timestamps the file name. Now it doesn't work with the latest Libre Writer. I look forward to your return. Please update it quickly

Steve,
The 1.2.0 version of the timeStampBackup extension works for me in my LO 7.1.0 portable version (on Windows 10 x64 prof.). You can download it from the link given above.

This works great. I'd love to be able to assign a keyboard shortcut to 'Save and Timestamp Backup' --- and in fact, I'd like to assign the normal save shortcut to this, so I'm always saving versions.
I understand that there's a modification required to the extension to make this possible, e.g. https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/112656/set-keyboard-shortcuts-for-extensions/

You can assign the "timeStampBackup" subroutine to a free hotkey manually by usage of the Tools - Customize feature.
(for example the Ctrl-T is free in my Hungarian LibreOffice. Use the "LibreOffice" scope option if you want to use it in all of the applications.
