Stock Break Even Spreadsheet

9 0

A spreadsheet to calculate cost averaging and the break even sell price for stocks. Also includes the ability to automatically calculate the brokerage fee for the number of shares purchased and includes this in the break even calculation.

Project Description

Stock Break Even Calculator: Most brokerages have some kind of fee schedule which can be broken down into different levels of cost. Some may have a flat fee. Either of these fee schedules have been allowed for in this spreadsheet through the "fees" tab. I have included an example fee schedule, which can be altered as needed. However, the basic, minimum to maximum, does not have to be as I have laid it out, but it makes it easier to follow. If your brokerage has a flat fee, only the top line (from, to, fee) is needed as long as you put something similar to "999999" in the "to" column. Basically, "From" zero shares "To" an amount higher than you will ever purchase. 999999 shares may be a good choice. See examples to the right: I have included a phone list so you can have your brokerage numbers handy, if you so choose. Additional Sheets: Tabs with ticker for name (set by user) There are fields for the issuer name and ticker that are for user input. Under these, there is a row that shows the totals and the break even value. These are calculated fields. The additional sheets are designed to chart a single stock. There are 100 rows to enter up to 100 transactions that include; purchase date, number of shares purchased, and the price per share. The columns "Shares Cost", "Brokerage Fees", and "Total Cost" are calculated fields. The Break Even Share Price field, adds an additional brokerage fee based on the total shares that are currently owned to calculate an accurate amount. The “Average Share Price” shows cost averaging of the share prices. To add additional stocks, copy the "Blank" sheet and then paste it back in as a new sheet and rename the sheet to the stock ticker. Fill in the fields in the new sheet to reflect the new stock. To copy a sheet, right click on sheet tab. The individual sheets can be moved by clicking on and dragging the sheet tabs to place them into the order you choose. I have "frozen" the top four lines so as to allow the screen to be scrolled and still see the calculated data. Recently added, in the column under the “Share Break Even Price”, I have allowed for “dividend” or “drip” to be added for those of us who are investing in DRIP stocks. This allows for dividend re-investment inclusion and no brokerage fee to be applied.
