Description

Introduction

odt2braille is a free and open source extension for the word processors LibreOffice Writer and OpenOffice.org Writer. Its goal is to make Braille available to anyone who knows how to use a word processor. The extension enables users to use Writer as a Braille authoring environment, to print Braille to a Braille embosser and to export to various Braille formats.

The Braille formats that odt2braille can export are BRF, BRA and PEF (Portable Embosser Format). For embossing, odt2braille supports embossers from Braillo, CIDAT (ONCE), Enabling Technologies, Index Braille, Mountbatten, ViewPlus and Interpoint.

It supports Braille conventions for more than 40 languages (through the liblouis library). The user interface has been translated into more than 15 languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese (Brazil/Portugal), Polish, Italian, Greek, Slovenian, Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian Bokmål.

Installation

  • Download the extension from SourceForge.
  • In LibreOffice, go to Tools > Extensions, and browse to the OXT file to add the extension.
