Anii spell checking

Simple spell checking extension for the Anii language (code BLO)

Project Description

This project has been registered for creating a simple working spell checker for the Anii language. The ISO code for this language is BLO (see the beginning of an article at www.wikipedia.fr). The language is mainly spoken in Benin and in Togo with many other speakers living abroad. The checker will consist of a growing wordlist with added functionality for allowing certain words in upper case for sentence initial position. The word list is established with a number of volounteers, all native speakers of the Anii language, who are being trained in the area of publication. All words given are based on already published documents and they represent a consensus of several people (in various combinations) about the spelling. If you want to see examples of such published documents, please go to www.revue-gugu.org. This is the online-mirror of a local one-in-every-village wall-publication. There are more and different documents but those are not yet available online. Since the word list is growing through the process of publishing documents and noting the spelling of new agreed spellings, this will be a slow growing but longterm extension project. We are new in this business and would be grateful for any help. Our ressources are rather limited but the language and the population is at the brink of turning truly literate. With the help of well crafted (not only consistent spelling - there is a whole orthography emerging in 2012) documents and various online and offline activity, there should be real progress within five years. No home page yet, no URLs - if we need anything to qualify for LibreOffice, please advise. Today I just registered to learn more about how to create a package. The spell checker as such is already working! We are using it in OmegaT and in Fieldworks and are hoping to use it soon in Thunderbird and LibreOffice. We are not hoping to have this spell checker shipped with every download of LibreOffice. But we want to craft it to the proper standards, so that it will work as an official hassle-free extention. It would be great, if it could be hosted on this server. Please get in touch, I am the "technician" who is just facilitating the technical aspects. The Anii people themselves are making the decisions. All the words and lists entrusted to be should probably be considered like public domain or something similar. I would appreciate advise about a suitable license. All for now, thank you for doing such fine work with LibreOffice. This is wonderful for areas like ours, where expensive Office packages would just not be possible.
