American British Canadian - spelling/hyphen/thesaurus dictionaries

15 5

This is a set of dictionaries for American English, British English, and Canadian English. Each dictionary has the spelling word list, the hyphenation controls/commands, and a large thesaurus. All you have to do is choose which English version you want to use.

Project Description

This is a set of dictionaries for American English, British English, and Canadian English. These dictionaries include hyphenation, thesaurus, and spelling word lists. You may install all of these dictionaries at the same time, then with the enable/disable option you may choose which dictionary, or dictionaries, to be used at any given time.

NOTE for Windows users: If you have the file extensions hidden, for known file types [default setting] then your system might confuse the .oxt files with compressed files like .zip. .oxt files are a type of compressed file. You do not need to "uncompress them" to use them. Just use the Extension Manager to add them to your package. "Tools > Extension Manager > Add" Then the internal files will be placed in their proper folders/files by this install method.

NOTE for all users: If you have several American/US English versions installed, the last one to be installed, or enabled, seems to be the first one to be used for "look up" of spelling words or thesaurus options. You may have an American/US English [en_US] version installed along side of a British [en_GB] and/or a Canadian [en_CA] English version. They each have their own language type over the generic "en" English type.

If there is a problem with the downloading of the dictionary files from this system, please go to http://libreoffice-na.us and click on the current online version of the LibreOffice North American Community DVD Project and choose the Dictionary option.  You will find a large list of dictionaries, including my KPP English Dictionaries.

For these dictionaries, I have not created any new version[s], since it is hard to find more words to add to their word list[s].  I have worked on creating a larger word list for the American English version, but most of the words are rare and mostly unused spellings forms instead of the more common spellings of these words.  They are correctly spelled, but not used [much] anymore.  If I used these rare word forms, the word list would go beyond 2 million words.  I have even worked on a "mega" list that was over 3 million words and terms but I would not want to use it [so others would not either], so I have not posted it here in this Extension Center.
