Wow! So intuitive! Why this is not already the default F&$ feature in LO Writer is beyond me. THIS is the way this should work in the first place!

I loved this addon until it stopped working. Now everytime I try to use it I get this error:

if u find opening the extension difficult then create a custom shortcut for it. go to "Tools Menu > Customise...". then select a shortcut u want like Ctrl-Shift-H in shortcuts list at the top. then select "LibreOffice Macros > My Macros > Alt Search > Alt Search (again)" in category section below. then select "_AltSearch" in Function subcategory section next to it. now click the "Modify" button then "Ok". to open the extension dialog box, hit ur custom shortcut keys everytime*

this extension is super duper easy and advanced, very helpful for one who dont know how to make macros for the same advanced purposes it serve.

This extension is so good it should be part of LibreOffice.
I use the tabbed interface. To access the extension without having to show a new, largely empty toolbar with the one AltSearch icon, I use Ctrl-Shift-H as a custom shortcut. To associate this shortcut, find the AltSearch window as follows and Ctrl-Shift-H in shortcuts list at the top at the top and Tools Menu > Customise... > Keyboard tab > Category LibreOffice Macros > My Macros > Alt Search > Alt Search (again) > _AltSearch
Click the "Modify" button then "Ok". Then you can hide the AltSearch toolbar (View menu). Good luck.
I am still using LibreOffice 6.2.2.2 in Windows. I notice there is an upgrade. Hope it still works in the upgrade. It works fine in the Linux version of LibreOffice.

I have used it since many years and was very satisfied.
But unfortunately I can not install it any more in the current version of Writer.
LibreOffice crashes when I try to install the extension from here.

So, so... For the average user, regular expressions are quite confusing, and definitely not intuitive; whenever I've tried to make search and replace operations with them through this add-on I failed at least once inputting a regular expression at search field and the same regular expression at the replace field, to get a final result different of intended (the default built-in search&replace would have the same behaviour...); further, this add-on (which is indeed a VB macro...)"crashes" when doing "replace all", at least within tables! It opens a VB window and returns an error message about "no variable set" or something like that!
Frankly, I'd prefer AltSearch add-on enabled Search&Replace features the very same way of MS Word, much simpler (using "^p" for paragraph, "^t" for tabulation, and so on...)
