Utviklerne er veldig glade for å ha en forbedret utgave klar. Denne nye utgaven har dratt nytte av at ordbanken har frigitt sine ordlister i fjor, og hentet inn 623.500 nye bokmåls- og nynorskord som nesten alle er derfra. Noen flere forkortelser er også med. – Frigjøringen av ordbankens ordlister har bidratt til å løfte stavekontrollen til nye høyder, sier prosjektdeltager Axel Bojer. Takket være samarbeidet med synonymordlisteprosjektet på synonymer.merg.net er synonymordlista for bokmål derfra tilgjengelig sammen med ordlista for bokmål og nynorsk. En synonymordliste for nynorsk er også med, men den er på prøvestadiet og meget liten. Stavekontrollpakken og synonymordlistene brukes i OpenOffice.org, Koffice, Mozilla Thunderbird, Firefox og en rekke andre programmer, både på Windows, Mac, Linux og BSD. Det hele utgis under den frie lisensen GPL, og kan fritt lastes ned fra nettet. Ferdige pakker for OpenOffice.org er også tilgjengelige fra samme sted. Det norske stavekontrollprosjektet er i kontakt med lignende prosjekter, blant annet for å forbedre stavekontrollteknologien, for å utveksle verktøy for vedlikehold av orddatabasen, og for å få tilgang til relevante datasett. Et av disse prosjektene er et separat prosjekt ved Sametinget som er i gang med å utvikle samisk stavekontroll, blant annet for MS Word og OpenOffice.org. Download
